Why Choose Photos Over Video

This is the follow up to the Videos are better than photos post. I still think videos are better than photos (try and change my mind) but this doesn’t mean that photos are useless! There are advantages to photos that videos aren’t able to give (yet) so it’s important that you invest appropriately in both. Knowing the advantage and disadvantage of photos and videos will help you to determine where to spend most of your money. With that out the way, here are 4 reasons why you would choose photos over videos.

Photos Are Timeless

Photos are not going anywhere no matter how good videos are. There is something powerful about freezing perfectly a moment in time. Photos will continue to hold a dominant place in weddings and social media. Photos are above trends so it will be around for a long time.

Photos Are Instantly Satisfying

There is an instant gratification factor to a photo. You don’t have to wait for a photo to buffer and you don’t have to watch a photo to the end to enjoy it. The moment you see it you’re impacted. Even though photos may not be able to tell you the complete story, the spark notes are still satisfying.

Photos are Physically Appealing

Photos are one of a few media types that can take on a physical form. This is the biggest advantage photos have over videos. You can enjoy them offline. There is also a deeply satisfying feeling browsing through a photo album. The sound of the plastic, the smell of the pages, the anticipation of what you will find on the next page… It’s an experience by itself.

Photos Are Perfectly Picked

I prefer candid shots but this is a preference. Most photographers will require an hour or more of the bride and groom to pose them and get perfect pictures. This guarantees that you will have pictures that you can frame and show off. These photos are carefully crafted by the photographer to make you look your absolute best. Photos can pull this off better than video.
